Gbedu is a type of drum used to accompany a dance by the Yoruba peoples of Nigeria and Benin. Gbedu literally means "big drum" and is a notable percussion instrument used in Yoruba music. It is most commonly found in Nigeria.

In modern Nigeria, the word Gbedu has taken new meanings. For many young people, the word simply means "party".[1] Musician Kola Ogunkoya uses the term "Afro Gbedu" to describe his style of music, which blends Afrobeat, jazz, highlife, Jùjú, funk and traditional Yoruba music.[2] Dele Sosimi, who played with Fela Kuti in the 1980s, later formed an Afrobeat group named "Gbedu Resurrection", although the group does not use the traditional drum.[3]
