George Swinton Legaré (1869–1913) was a politician from South Carolina; born in Rockville, S.C. Shortly after birth moved to Charleston, S.C. At Charleston, he graduated from the Porter Military Academy, now the exclusive Porter-Gaud School, in 1889. He then attended the law department of the University of South Carolina at Columbia for two years; was graduated from Georgetown University Law School, Washington, D.C., in 1893. He was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced a legal practice in Charleston, S.C. He was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth and to the four succeeding Congresses. He served from March 4, 1903, until his death, before the close of the Sixty-second Congress; had been reelected to the Sixty-third Congress. His death was in Charleston, S.C., January 31, 1913; interment in Magnolia Cemetery.
