Hanna is a town in east-central Alberta, Canada.

The town's main sources of revenue are agriculture, oil production, tourism, coal mining and retirement. It is the centre of a large trading area called Short Grass County and is the home of approximately 200 businesses. The mayor of the town is currently Mary Collins.[1]

Famous Hanna residents have included Shirley McClellan, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, Marjorie Willison, author and radio personality, a Rhodes Scholar, an engineer who worked on both the Avro Arrow and for NASA, the rock band Nickelback, and an assortment of hockey players including one Hall of Famer, Lanny McDonald.

Demographics

In 2006, Hanna had a population of 2,847 living in 1,295 dwellings, a 4.7% decrease from 2001. The town has a land area of Template:Km2 to mi2 and a population density of Template:Pop density km2 to mi2.[2]


Climate

Alberta has a moderate climate that enjoys four distinct seasons, including warm summers and mild Canadian winters. Precipitation averages 425mm (16.7") of which 150 mm (5.9") falls as snow. From May to September the mean rainfall averages 300mm (11.8") and is sufficient to assure a good crop. July is the month of maximum thunderstorm and hail activity. Individual snowfalls rarely exceed 15cm (6") and a snow depth of 30 cm (12") occurs on the average of once in 10 years.
