Sir Indur Ramphul (born 10 October 1931) was a notable figure in the Mauritian banking and financial sectors. After 16 years at the Accountant General Department and the Ministry of Finance, he joined the Bank of Mauritius in 1967 as a Manager. He was subsequently promoted to Chief Manager, Managing Director, and finally, in June 1982, to the position of Governor of the Bank of Mauritius. Additionally, he served as an alternate Governor for Mauritius at the International Monetary Fund.[1]
Sir Indur Ramphul has contributed significantly to the development of the banking sector in Mauritius and the modernization of the country's banking legislation. He played a pivotal role in the development of offshore banking in Mauritius and was the Chairman of the Offshore Banking Technical Committee until 1996, a body established by the Government to oversee various aspects of offshore banking, including the issuance of offshore banking licenses.[1]
