Oka Akoko

Oka is the capital city of Akoko South-West Local Government of Ondo State, Nigeria.

Oka is bounded in the East by Epinmi and Ipe, in the West by Akungba and Supare, in the North by Ise Iboropa and Ugbe, in the South by Oba and Ikun. Oka is in two major parts, called OKEROKA or Okeoka on the northern part of a major tourist center: the Catholic Church OKE-MARIA pilgrimage center and OKARODO or Okaodo, consisting of the part that is southern of the OKE-MARIA Hill. The Quarters in Oka include Okaodo, Agba, Ikanmu, Ibaka, Ikese, Iboje, Owalusin, Koruwa, Ayegunle, Owake, Ebinrin, Idofin, Ebo, Owase, , Okia, Simerin/Uba. The traditional ruler of OKEROKA part of Oka is the OLUBAKA of OKA, a stool currently occupied by Oba Alhaji Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, while the OKARODO part is under the rulership of ASIN of OKA, a stool currently occupied by Oba (Sir) Pius Omiyejola Akande.

Education

Oka is home to several educational institutions in Ondo State. Notable among her public secondary schools are: African Church Grammar School, Oka; St Patrick College, Iwaro Oka; Ogoso High School, Oka; Esedo comprehensive high school, Iwaro Oka. Ojominrin High School, Oka; Ola Oluwa Grammar School, Oka; Christ High School, Oka and others. There are many privately owned primary and secondary schools. Oka sons and daughters are well educated and are presently holding substantial national and international positions across the world. Oka is a great place.

Markets

Oka is a chief commercial city in Ondo state with several industrial base and markets which include but not limited to: 1. Odowaro 2. Ajoke Market 3. Ebo and several other markets in adjoining Villages.

Ethnic groups

Oka though basically a Yoruba ethnic city, is also a place of convergence in Ondo State for many ethnic groups in Nigeria namely Igbo, Hausa, Fulani and so on.

Festivals

Oka has a rich cultural heritage with exciting festivals every year. The popular new yam festival and which is divided into two part, the main Oka new team festival, celebrated by the ASIN of the with the celebration center at Oka-odo held every last Saturday of July and the Oka day/new yam festival celebrated every first Saturday in August under the OLUBAKA of OKA. This is the chief festival in Oka. Others are Ihare, Egungun, Omomo, Alitha, Omiiden-agbaa, Roro-agba Ukori and Udede etc.
