Michael Scott Hopkins is a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, and a current NASA astronaut candidate.[1] Hopkins was selected in June 2009 as a member of the NASA Astronaut Group 20.

Biography

Early life and education

Michael Scott Hopkins was born in Lebanon, Missouri. He earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992, where he played defensive back for the Illinois Fighting Illini football team.[2] He also holds a master's degree from Stanford University.

Career

Hopkins attended the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School as a flight test engineer. He was serving as a special assistant to the Vice Chairman (Joint Chiefs of Staff) at the Pentagon at the time of his selection for NASA Astronaut Group 20.[3]

Marriage and children

Hopkins is married and has two sons.[4]
