The third season of the comedy-drama science fiction television series The Orville, also known as The Orville: New Horizons, is set to premiere on March 10, 2022 on Hulu.[1] Filming began in October 2019 but was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and production ultimately completed in August 2021.[2] This season will be the first on Hulu, after airing its previous two seasons on Fox as well as the first to premier since The Walt Disney Company's acquisition of 20th Century Fox back in March 2019 (the second season debuted aporomently three months prior to that).[3]

Development
The season will have 11 episodes – fewer than the previous two seasons, but on average each episode will run 12 to 15 minutes longer.[7]
Production
Seth MacFarlane and Jon Cassar are the only directors for the third season.[8] Filming began in October 2019, but was halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately half of the season was completed beforehand.[9][10] Production resumed in December 2020 but was suspended once again in January 2021 following a COVID surge.[11][12] Filming once again resumed in early February 2021 and wrapped in August.[13][14] Norm Macdonald completed voiceover work as Lt. Yaphit prior to his death in September 2021, making it one of his final roles.[5]
