"Trap"
Song

"Trap" is a Korean language R&B-pop song performed by the Chinese-American artist Henry Lau featuring Kyuhyun of Super Junior and Taemin of Shinee. It was chosen as the lead single from Lau's first EP of the same name, which was released on June 7, 2013, under the record label of S.M. Entertainment.

Production

The song is composed and arranged by a group of European music producers including Svante Halldin, Emilh Tigerlantz and Geraldo Sandell, while Lee Soo Man of S.M. Entertainment is the executive producer. The lyrics were penned by Misfit who has also contributed to many other songs of various SM Town artists. The piano instrumental was performed by Henry Lau himself. The accompanying choreography was put together by Shaun Evaristo who has previously worked on many other songs with other artists of SM Town, including BoA for "Not Over U", Super Junior for "From U" and Super Junior-M for "Go".[1]

Release

On May 31, 2013, a teaser of accompanying music video was uploaded on the official channel of S.M. Entertainment on YouTube.[2] On June 5, 2013, the record label agency revealed that the release of the music video would be postponed, citing time required for quality production as the reason for delay.[3] Two days later, the full music video was released,[4] along with the full EP.[5] The song was made available for digital download on various music portal sites, such as Naver, Daum and Soribada, in South Korea the same day.

Music video

The accompanying music video of the song featured fellow labelmates Kyuhyun of Super Junior and Taemin of Shinee. The video starts with Henry playing the grand piano and after whispering "I am trapped" joins the background dancers in a B-boy styled choreography. The video ends with Henry going back to and playing the piano once again.

Promotion

The song was later performed as a promotional single along with "Dream Girl" on various music and variety shows including Music Bank, Inkigayo, Music Core, M! Countdown and Show Champion. Henry shifted between starting the performance with either a grand piano or a violin on the stage.[6] Henry Lau also made appearances on radio shows including Super Junior's Kiss The Radio during which he performed acoustic version of "Trap".[7] The song was also included in the set-list of the Asian leg of the first Super Junior world tour, Super Show 5.

Chart performance

"Trap" was the most digitally downloaded track from the EP according to South Korea's Gaon Weekly Singles Chart, on which it peaked at spot 28.
