• Move to Angus MacDonald (Scottish politician) (currently a double redirect) - per WP:NCPDAB. Politician is clearer particularly when he is also currently a councillor. Scottish is required to disambiguate from the Canadian politician (I don't know if the Canadian is the primary topic or not so that may require further discussion). Those pages see to be outliers but do highlight the inconsistency in article names for politicians. Most disambiguation at Category:Scottish National Party MSPs, Category:21st-century Scottish politicians, Category:Conservative MSPs, Category:20th-century Scottish politicians etc use politician or descriptor politician as disambiguation. • Move to Angus MacDonald (currently as DAB page). I rather see the base name moved to Angus Macdonald (disambiguation), due to my suspicion that this article is actually a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. • Move both! to Angus McDonald (Canada) and to Angus MacDonald (UK). The name is the confusion: very few people are likely to be interested in both. Canadians - or possibly outsiders - interested in local history or political history, will be seeking the first. The second, the Scot, is now a UK national politician (the House of Commons in Westminster, not Holyrood or the Highlands Council), so interest is likely to derive from things he says or does, picked up the UK national media - or world media. Both were Politicians and both were actually an MP! One died about a century ago, whilst the other has now gained a national voice (his party is now greatly reduced, so he is likely to be more involved in debates and committees, etc., than if elected in a by-election a week before...). "MP" is still ambiguous, whilst both "Liberal Democrat politician" and "Scottish politician" are rather long (even leaving aside the view that he is now a UK politician, who is from Scotland...). "UK" is also just two letters, but still sorts the name ambiguity and the MP ambiguity. Discuss?

Per WP:NCPDAB: The disambiguator is usually a noun indicating what the person is noted for being in their own right. In most cases, these nouns are standard, commonly used tags such as "(musician)" and "(politician)". I have no opinion on whether or not the Canadian should move but I'd be opposed to this move on that basis. If Scottish is the sticky point, happy to listen to alternatives (the next choice is usually by party though). Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 15:01, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
