Field artillery batteries
Field artillery batteries
The names of the two field artillery batteries are extremely hard to translate. The Tulenjohtopatteri trains forward observers so its name is most ecomomically translated literally as Forward Observer Battery. The Tuliasemapatteri trains officers for the duties in the batteries that are charged with operating the guns. The majority of the students of this units will train as battery commanders and battery vice-commanders, if they are in the field artillery, and as leaders of mortar platoons, if they are in located in the mortars section. So, basically these officers will be located at the fire direction centers, controlling the fire. However, this is only a part of their duty. The battery commander is responsible for the whole battery, not only for the fire direction. I believe the earlier, literal translation "Firing Positions Battery" is better, as the students will be working in the actual firing batteries, contrasted with the forward observer and staff-and-logistics batteries. --MPorciusCato 11:05, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Other Reserve Officer Training
This section is almost, but not quite accurate. Sometimes conscripts from other branches are sent to the Reserve Officer School. Unfortunately I couldn't find any sources to back this up, but personally I'm quite sure of this since my partner (as in the buddy system) was actually trained as a Combat Diver (an extremely difficult special branch to get into), and was for some reason sent to train with us in the sissi company for officer training. And I'm glad he was, since I got an excellent partner; he was virtually tireless and as strong as a bull, and was selected as the "best buddy" of the whole course. After the course, he returned back to his unit and continued his duties as a Combat Diver. (Jedku (talk) 17:45, 1 January 2008 (UTC))

--MPorciusCato 11:05, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
