The history of the South Side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a long one. Here the area located at the confluence of the Monongahela (foreground) and Allegheny (background) Rivers is depicted in 1871, with what was then known as Birmingham in the right foreground and Allegheny in the distance on the left.
