Words are weapons of mass delusion, so I try to avoid substitutes for thinking, such as these, and am still repenting for -an/-al/at/-ian/-ism/-ist/-ive (and all other labels and suffixes I affix to people), ___ Wars (and all applications of War as conceptual metaphor, including, but not limited to, Edit Wars^§ and most Star Wars), #hashtag, 24/7, absolutely, always, amazing, As a (followed by jerky remark), at the end of the day, awesome, back in the day, best practices, bottom line, cra-cra, creative, curate/curated, disrupt, effective, efficient, effective and efficient, efficient and effective, Evil (vs Good), Good (vs Evil), great, green, Having been (followed by jerky remark), I'm just sayin' (tho ironically), I'm so excited to, I'm so excite!, including, but not limited to, LOL/OMG/WTF, looking forward to, never, never say never, organic, passion/passionate, random, run on sentences splattered with semi-stops, said no one ever, selfie (tho snarkily), shared sacrifice, skill set, spoiler alert, step away, step back, takeaway, teachable moment, Team, tho, track record, transparent/transparency, tweet, under the bus, unprecedented, viral, War on ____, webinar, wordsmith/ing, world-class, x is the new y, yolo (this I blame on my kids).

Some of each vs Either/or

Humans have evolved - by dumb luck or by design, it doesn't much matter - to automatically think and act in terms of either/or. Predator or prey? Friend or foe? Fight or flee? We've done that for at least 200,000 years, as modern humans, and for ~4.5 billion years, in various forms, before that.

It's only in the last 50 years that a good minority of us have come to realize that things are no longer so simple. Many of us are simultaneously Liberals and Conservatives, Pro Life and Pro Choice, Pro Immigrant and Pro Law, Pro Faith and Pro Reason, Pro Anarchy and Pro Order, and most anything in between.

I loved the irony of the Pope having to explain to the US Congress that "there is another temptation which we must especially guard against: the simplistic reductionism which sees only good or evil; or, if you will, the righteous and sinners. The contemporary world, with its open wounds which affect so many of our brothers and sisters, demands that we confront every form of polarization which would divide it into these two camps". That's like the Pope saying Who am I to judge?

As I tumble like a farm boy into Wikimedia haystacks, I sometimes get pricked by simplistic reductionistic needles. I stick the pricks into my pin cushion, then go on with merry play.

The most time I'd EVER spent exercising my right to vote

• On my ballot so far: Callanecc, GorillaWelfare, Keilana, Opabinia regalis.
• Update 12.3.15 Got asked why all the candidates on my ballot are female. Didn't know that til just now. (And I'd thought at least two of them were nonhumans; false advertising) I'd say Freudian slip, but the guy was on coke and stuff, and I'm on a diet. Full Full Disclosure then: I am a Feminist. I know that's kinda sexist and -ist-ist and hypocritical of me and all. But until we fix the Gender bias on Wikipedia, ah well.

Now to add my name to that Honor Role of Female Wikipedians.

Update 12.6.15: I was too dumb to vote. Am leaving this here anyway, as yet another reminder, as if I needed one, that I am always dumber than I think.
