Rock Action is the third full-length studio album by the post-rock group Mogwai. This effort was one of Mogwai's most commercially successful and accessible albums. The advent of Rock Action brought with it some changes to Mogwai's sound that would stick; namely, electronics. While song structures on this CD are typical of the band in most cases and respects, some of the contrasting dynamics have been toned down slightly and many of the songs feel like they have more of a focus on texture instead of structure. For the first time Mogwai mixes in electronic drums, synths, and midi instruments, utilizing an increased sonic palette and giving the album a unique timbre. This album also features subtle vocals on a number of tracks, in particular on the single "Dial: Revenge", a pop song that has much the same purpose "Cody" did on Come On Die Young and features vocals from Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals. The feel of this album is slightly less dark than previous works, but maintains Mogwai's signature cryptic cynicism.
