:Imabhi666 - Hi, and welcome. Your draft was declined because it doesn't have any sources. Sources are essential on Wikipedia. They are how we decide if a topic is Notable and should have an article on here. And they let readers verify that what they are reading is accurate. You don't actually need many for places, but you do need a few. It seems all the reviewers of this page are unfamiliar with what confers notoriety in literature in New Zealand. They don't seem to understand the majority of the links are from the premier magazine and literary journal of records, with a spate of news stories from both mainstream and alternative sources. It's deeply frustrating to have people unfamiliar with this area search for a reason to reject articles when they clearly have no knowledge of the specifics of the field. I was going to help expand the number of pages of NZ authors on wikipedia but if they're going to be all measured and rejected by people who have no idea what they're doing it is a pointless task and I'll just leave this to be deleted.

10:29:15, 1 April 2018 review of submission by Yrarendar
Originally the article was rejected for not being supported by reliable sources. I made changes to address this and it has been declined again for the same reason without any further comments. I'm not sure what else I can change? From what I can tell, every source I've used can be deemed to be reliable. Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Dear Help Desk

I am new to Wikipedia - though I have one article accepted. I have written an article on the French journal Trafic: une revue de cinéma because it was requested by Wikipedia. I was reading an article on Raymond Bellour and was re-directed to the request when I clicked on Trafic for which Bellour is an editor. The article on Trafic was declined because the topic was not notable and insufficient references were provided. I provided 8 references for this short description, including one to an article in the newspaper Le monde however these were in French. Could this be the problem? I should add that I would not have written the article if it had not been requested. Should I ignore such requests in the future? I read French and was familiar with the journal, so I thought that I might be able to assist. Any suggestions that the Help Desk might have would be much appreciated.
Nick
Best wishes

: Hi Thelamb22. Wikipedia articles can't be written about just anyone. They need to be notable peoples, or things of interest, generally this is done by secondary sources talking about the subject, but for footballers, it's slightly different. There guidelines for inclusion of football players can be found at: WP:NFOOTY. Basically, he needs to have played in a fully professional match, so you would need to prove he has done this. My article titled Printerland was rejected because it included copyrighted content. This is not the case, as every piece of information was correctly referenced and I wrote the submission personally so I know that nothing was copied.
Hello,

I'm trying to speak to the user who rejected my draft for some more helpful feedback on how to improve my article, but its been a week and I've heard nothing back. Could I please have some guidance on this? I know that the original draft has been deleted, so you may not be able to review it, however I have a screen shot of the article in draft mode which I can share.
I am working in conjunction with a colleague of mine (Neypar9) to submit a draft for publication on the wiki platform.
The draft was initially rejected and re-edited to meet the guidelines, however the reviewer has rejected the
article again requesting information not outlined by wiki guidelines. So we are requesting that the article be submitted
to another editor for review.

How can I change the title from Robert Montagu to Robert Montagu Therapist
"A S.O.G. here and I'm responding on behalf of my colleague"NeyPar9"to your decision to decline our request to have a page created for the artist known as Qmoog. We have noticed that in your response you indicated a lack of notoriety for this artist as your reasoning for declining our page request. Having investigated wikipedia guidelines further we have discovered that the subject need only to satisfy one of the qualifications to be considered "Notable". As a result, I am including two of those guidelines of which this artist meets that criteria along with links to verify them: "Has released two or more albums on a major record label or on one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years, and with a roster of performers, many of whom are independently notable." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crammed_Discs), "Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g., a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a notable compilation album."(https://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Deepest-Shade-Of-Techno-III/release/8187).

13:40:08, 28 March 2018 review of submission by Carlosmoreira69
:Hi Neypar9. Having released two albums on Crammed Discs is a plausible argument for meeting WP:MUSICBIO criterion #5 (I make no comment on The Deepest Shade of Techno because discogs, being user-generated, is not a reliable source), so Qmoog may be notable. Use that in the first or second sentence or to tell the reader what Qmoog is known for, as described in MOS:BLPLEAD.

:The reason for notability guidelines is to ensure that articles comply with Wikipedia's policies. Our policy on verifiability says, "If no reliable third-party sources can be found on a topic, Wikipedia should not have an article on it." (Also note that the bulk of any article should be based on secondary sources.) What reviewers may have failed to convey is that Wikipedia cares very little about what Qmoog and his label say about Qmoog. Almost all Wikipedia is interested in is what independent sources say about Qmoog, and the draft isn't citing any independent sources. Start over with at least three independent reliable sources, perhaps reviews by professional music critics in reputable publications of those two releases on Crammed Discs. Base the draft mainly on those independent sources. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:41, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
::Neypar9 I agree with Bruce, but just wanted to say, props for doing your legwork and checking your topic against the criteria of WP:Notability (music). A lot of people beat their head against the wall working a draft but never bother to read that policy recommended to them, so you've saved yourself a lot of hassle. Concur with Bruce that you need to make sure you don't "bury the lead" but rather make it explicitly clear in the first one or two sentences just what the band is Notable for. But yes, now that you've tackled that the next issue is finding WP:Independent sources covering the band. Hi - how can one single line "Potpourri Group is a direct marketing company based in Massachusetts, USA. It was founded in 1963 [1] and now has 15 [2] brands in its portfolio" be described as "appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia." It is a matter of fact encyclopedic statement. Please review again.
Aparashar (talk) 21:24, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
:Aparashar - Have done, and I'd agree with the original reviewer. We determine whether companies warrant an article on Wikipedia by assessing Notability. We assess Notability by looking for "significant coverage from reliable sources independent of the subject". In this case, the only source is the company's website. That's not significant coverage and it's not independent. So what you have is two sentences about a marketing company sourced to itself. On the world's biggest online encyclopedia. To me, that's an attempt to advertise. I see this is the only article you've ever tried to write. Do you have a connection to the company? If you do, that needs to be declared as a conflict of interest. Hope this is helpful. KJP1 (talk) 21:45, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

If there are minor issues with an article you can usually ask the deleter to restore the draft for you, but if it is a flat-out copyright violation, they generally won't give it back and you need to start from scratch and not copy sources word-for-word.

:I can't see the article, but there were also possible issues with WP:Conflict of interest. Note that if you have ties to the subject, you have to announce them on the page per COI. Also, if you do want to start from scratch, my advice is to start a draft page by just compiling all the sources you can find online about the subjec, then comb through them to find specific facts and cite the facts to the sources. That way you can make sure that everything you add to the draft has a clear source. What you don't want to do is the reverse, where you just write whatever you know, then in hindsight try and find sources to prove your claims. :- Yashi Yadav - The article has been nominated for deletion. However, we aren't really the place to be able to do much to help. The article has been placed in mainspace, and is not under the Articles for creation remit, as we deal with the acception of draft articles. However, the subject Chandan saxena doesn't seem like a notable figure, and is very unlikely to pass General Notability Guidelines, or WP:CREATIVE.

:Hello Gutchman the issue is that your draft is still basically just about "About Us!" page for LIM rather than an objective description. I see you've added some links, but they're just to other Lutheran Missionary organizations.
Good day,
:You're falling into a common error: you write what you know about a subject, then go back to try to add sources. What works far better is to do it the other way round: use what you know about the subject to gather a body of good sources, then clear your mind of what you know about the subject and write the draft as though all you had was said sources. I did some looking for sources and not finding a ton online, probably because it was part of Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots from the 1970s until 2000. It may be that it is mentioned more in books and news articles found offline (which are okay to use, just cite them very clearly so someone could find them if needed).
:I strongly suggest you take a look at WP:Independent sources; just adding cites to LAMP and church sites does not provide any independent perspective on LIM, so that's the big issue. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:11, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
::Gutchman I notice that Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots doesn't have any independent sourcing either. If you're having trouble substantiating facts about LIM, I suggest you could tackle improving LAMP, and then add a section at LAMP explaining that LIM split off from it in 2000, and create a Redirect so that searches for LAMP or LIM go to the same page. I notice a lot more substantiated facts about LAMP on GoogleBooks, so fixing up that article could be a good workaround. Is this sufficient for establishing importance? Lutheran Indian Ministries (LIM) separated from Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots (LAMP) 18 years ago. LAMP works only in Canada. They have a Wikipedia article. LIM works in both the US and Canada and is a Recognized Service Organization of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (the LCMS has a Wikipedia article) as is LAMP. Thanks for any help you can give me. It's been a while since I published an article and I am rusty.
: JLL87. Images can only be placed in drafts if they are completely free images. Unless the company uploads the images to WikiMedia, (IE, free for literally anyone to use), they can't be used on drafts. However, non-free images (like the ones you suggested earlier), could be used if the article was no longer a draft, so I would concentrate on that. I haven't reviewed the article, but it does seem to have an awful lot of WP:PRIMARY sources; and whilst primary sources are usable, it may cause issues regarding getting the article published. You will need to get the article to pass General Notability Guidelines; which requires Significant coverage in secondary reliable sources. ::Jll877, non-free images can only be used if they satisfy all 10 of the Non-free content criteria. This can be tricky. But in any case, get the draft into shape to be accepted as an article first, then worry about images, whether free or non-free. That is my advice. Hello Gutchman,

There are guidelines that we use to determine notability (see here). This guideline states that a topic is presumed to be important enough to warrant its own article if it has received "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". There are also secondary notability criteria for specific groups. Here the relevant one (WP:ORG) is similar but includes some protection to prevent companies from gaming the system.

I looked around and found that Lutherian Indian Ministries have been the subject of a documentary as part of the PBS(?) series Visionaries. This is substantial coverage that is independent of the subject. Usually, human-interest reporting is known to play loose with the facts in order to illicit emotions in the reader/viewer and as such are not usually considered reliable. However, the team behind Visionaries seem to have significant background in documentary journalism that leads me to believe it to be reliable. For notability to be asserted, you would need another source is independent, reliable and that covers significantly the organization. In the best of cases, 2 more would solidify that claim, and make the point about the reliability of the source moot.

So, I am unsure about the notability of the organization, and that should be something that is addressed. If you can find more of these sources, you would be able to create an article.

Another avenue to consider is that you could, instead of creating an article, include a section about LIM in the LAMP article, as they were both the same organization at the start and do similar work. Acebulf (talk) 00:23, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

Best wishes

23:22:16, 25 March 2018 review of submission by 107.77.194.156

1) First, I wrote an article about a Frank Lloyd Wright house and mentioned a woman, Dorothy Eppstein, who helped build the house and was a WWII medal of honor winner. My article was shot down because the person said she wasn't important enough?? A movie was made about her! What does a woman have to do to warrant "importance" on Wikipedia? Do you know 80% of your articles are about men? A hell of a lot of them did less for the world than air force pilot Dororty Eppstein.
2) after the rejection, I was given the word "Penis" to type into the captua - really? Reject the article about a woman then give me a captue of "Penis" - it's really beyond beliefE

Imabhi666 - Hi, and welcome. Your draft was declined because it doesn't have any sources. Sources are essential on Wikipedia. They are how we decide if a topic is Notable and should have an article on here. And they let readers verify that what they are reading is accurate. Standtall78 - Not to stand on Matthew's heels, but pages aren't immediately indexed on google when they are created. first they need to be accepted via the New page patrollers, and then, google's robots don't find things immediately. Request on 13:12:04, 27 March 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by Thelamb22

I do not know why my article was declined, and info would be greatly appreciated! Thelamb22 (talk) 13:12, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thelamb22. 15:31:34, 27 March 2018 review of submission by Computer Risk Management

My article titled Printerland was rejected because it included copyrighted content. This is not the case, as every piece of information was correctly referenced and I wrote the submission personally so I know that nothing was copied.

Thank you,

@Carlosmoreira69: it's okay to take facts from Daily Beast, put them in your own words, and footnote them to that source. The problem appears to be that you copied text directly from DB. Questions about a submission I made, comments were placed on the article and I am not sure which lines or words the comments are referring to to fix them and I am unable to access the article or find that I even created it to fix it. Am I able to fix/adjust it while it is under review, has the article been deleted completely? Sunnyday18 (talk) 16:27, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello David H. Gutmann was created but then deleted as an "unambiguous copyright infringement". If there are minor issues with an article you can usually ask the deleter to restore the draft for you, but if it is a flat-out copyright violation, they generally won't give it back and you need to start from scratch and not copy sources word-for-word.
I can't see the article, but there were also possible issues with WP:Conflict of interest. MatthewVanitas (talk) 03:07, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It hasn't just been declined, it's been salted. This means that no-one can now create an article on "Webkul". It's time for you to abandon your attempt to abuse Wikipedia for promotional purposes. Maproom (talk) 10:04, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

19:08:50, 29 March 2018 review of submission by Gutchman

Added:

Hello @Gutchman: the issue is that your draft is still basically just about "About Us!" page for LIM rather than an objective description. I see you've added some links, but they're just to other Lutheran Missionary organizations.
You're falling into a common error: you write what you know about a subject, then go back to try to add sources.
I strongly suggest you take a look at WP:Independent sources; just adding cites to LAMP and church sites does not provide any independent perspective on LIM, so that's the big issue. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:11, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gutchman: I notice that Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots doesn't have any independent sourcing either. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:19, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Another RSO of the LCMS, the Lutheran Church Extension Fund have a Wikipedia article.

Thanks for any help you can give me. It's been a while since I published an article and I am rusty.

Gutchman (talk) 19:08, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gutchman,

There are guidelines that we use to determine notability (see here). This guideline states that a topic is presumed to be important enough to warrant its own article if it has received "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". There are also secondary notability criteria for specific groups. Here the relevant one (WP:ORG) is similar but includes some protection to prevent companies from gaming the system.

I looked around and found that Lutherian Indian Ministries have been the subject of a documentary [1] as part of the PBS(?) series Visionaries.

Acebulf (talk) 00:23, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It was rejected because, as it says in the rejection notice, it "reads more like an essay than an encyclopedia article". This probably can't be fixed – it's just not a suitable topic for a Wikipedia article. Maproom (talk) 14:43, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

22:50:54, 31 March 2018 review of submission by Mjwellington

Mjwellington (talk) 22:50, 31 March 2018 (UTC) Mjwellington I have made some suggested edits to your entry on Brannavan Gnanalingam - please do go back to the original as written if you don't like them. Request on 10:29:15, 1 April 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by Yrarendar

Dear Help Desk I am new to Wikipedia - though I have one article accepted. I provided 8 references for this short description, including one to an article in the newspaper Le monde' however these were in French. Could this be the problem? I should add that I would not have written the article if it had not been requested. Should I ignore such requests in the future? I read French and was familiar with the journal, so I thought that I might be able to assist. Any suggestions that the Help Desk might have would be much appreciated. Best wishes Yrarendar (talk) 10:29, 1 April 2018 (UTC) YrarendarMjwellington - Shall certainly go and have a look at the draft to see what needs doing. And many thanks for helping out with a requested draft. By an odd, but happy, chance, I wonder of you might also be able to help the author above. It is clear they are becoming frustrated by the challenges in demonstrating Notability for a New Zealand author. Given you own experience, I thought you might be able to advise on possible sources?
