William Edward Koenig (born August 17, 1956) is an American priest of the Catholic Church, currently serving as Vicar for Clergy of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York, who has been recently been appointed as tenth bishop for the Diocese of Wilmington, Delaware.

Biography

Bishop-Elect Koenig was born on August 17, 1955, in Queens, New York. On May 14, 1983, he was ordained to the priesthood by bishop John R. McGann, in the same diocese of Rockville Center, where he served in multiple parishes and diocesan positions, including rector of the Cathedral of St. Agnes, and subsequently Vicar for Clergy of the same diocese. In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI granted him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness. [1]

On April 30, 2021, Pope Francis appointed Koenig bishop for the Diocese of Wilmington.[2] [3] [4] Koenig is scheduled to be consecrated as a bishop on July 13, 2021, at the church of St. Elizabeth, in his new diocese.
