Wanted is a 2009 Bollywood action film, directed by Prabhu Deva, starring Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia in the lead roles. It is the second remake of 2007 Tamil film Pokkiri.

Plot

Somewhere in Singapore, where a tournament was being held, a phone call came to Gani Bhai(Prakash Raj) informing him the murder of Golden(Aseem Merchant)'s murder by an enemy gangster. Gani Bhai then informs her that he will be arriving at Mumbai day after tomorrow.

The story then shifts 3 months earlier in Mumbai.Golden's gang and Datta Pawle's gang fight for the biggest piece of Mumbai. As Mumbai reels under bloody gang wars, commissioner Ashraf Khan (Govind Namdeo) vows to make the city crime-free and starts his campaign by arresting 200 criminals.

Radhe (Salman Khan) is a gangster, who begins to work for Gani Bhai (Translated as Don Ghani) after a fight with many of his men. Radhe begins to love Jhanvi (Ayesha Takia) is the love interest of Radhe. Meanwhile, Inspector Talpade (Mahesh Manjrekar) also falls for Jhanvi, whereas Jhanvi has developed a soft spot for Radhe, since she met him.

Meanwhile, Shiva, Datta Pawle's right hand man, begins to threat people while entering into Golden's area. Golden calls with a meeting with Datta. They begin to discuss about land matter.Radhe begins to scold Shiva, after which he threatens to kill him. In a twist of tale, Radhe kills Shiva and after a brief gunshot, escapes the place. Jhanvi then calls for Radhe to propose to him, but Datta Pawles's men bgins to hound him, scaring Jhanvi. Radhe kills all of them one by one horrifying Jhanvi.

Golden's secretary phones Radhe about Golden's murder by Datta Pawle and bewares him. Then the story shifts to the time when Gani Bhai was at Singapore.Gani Bhai comes back to Mumbai one day earlier, and kills Datta Pawle. Gani Bhai meets Radhe at a bar where he gives him an assignment to fulfill. He has some enemy to dispose of. Radhe rejects the assignment. While leaving the bar, Gani bhai came to be arrested by Ashraf Khan. He tries to interrogates him the reason of his return. His gang retaliate by making a lewd video of Khan's daughter. While she is tortured, she reveals that there is a police informant in their gang.

On research they find out that he's the son of former police officer Shrikant Shekhawat (Vinod Khanna), who now runs a fitness center.Srikant informs Gani bhai that his son is an IPS officer who was assigned to end gang wars. He also informs that his right-hand man Golden wasn't killed by Datta Pawle, but by his own son. Upon killing him, Gani Bhai ensures that his son will perform his last rites. They discover that the mole is none other than Radhe, and in fear go into hiding.

Radhe forces Talpade to take him to the hideout. There, he engages in a mass shootout in which he kills everyone, and finally slits Gani Bhai's throat.

Talpade tries to act innocent as Radhe phones the commissioner and informs him that his daughter is safe but unfortunately Inspector Talpade was killed in the shootout before shooting Talpade himself, in a similar fashion to how Talpade faked the death of an innocent police constable earlier quoting his tag line, "एक बार जो मैंने कमिटमेंट कर दिया, तो फिर मैं खुद की भी नहीं सुनता" meaning "Once I commit myself to something, even I don't listen to myself". Then the credits roll.

Cast

Production

Director Prabhu Deva was also the director of the previous Tamil remake, Pokkiri. Asin Thottumkal was first approached for the role of Jhanvi, but due to other commitments she rejected the offer.[3] Consequently the role went to Ayesha Takia.

Wanted was one of 2009's biggest hits with approximately Rs. 33.5 crore distribution share. More than 70% of its business came from single screens rather than multiplexes. It was released on the same day as Dil Bole Hadippa.

Wanted received mixed to solid reviews.[9][10] However Salman Khan's performance was much praised by critics and audience as well. Nikhat Kazmi from The Times of India gave it 4 out of 5. Taran Adarsh gave it 4 out of 5 stating that Wanted will run only on Salman's star power.[11] Raja Sen from Rediff gave a rating of 2 out of 5 and said "Khan might be having fun, but the fact a film like Wanted underscores is how badly Bollywood needs a breed of younger leading men. And how the existing lot need roles that fit."[12]
