Standard Table

[edit]

Page views were gathered for the month of June 2010 using this listing, and though activity may vary from month to month, these numbers are meant to give a good idea of which articles are currently being viewed the most. The quality/importance ratings are accurate as of July 1, 2010. Importances marked with ♦ indicate a Vital article. Importances marked with † indicate a Supplementary Core article. Importances marked with ‡ indicate a Core article. Percentages in parentheses indicate a statistical outlier, which may indicate an abnormal level of activity in either this or the previous month.

Periodic Tables

[edit]

The first table is color-coded by page views using the same category scheme as above. The second table employs a new scale which combines both quality and page views. They can be used to help identify trends in article traffic and quality.

Conclusions

[edit]
  • These articles tend to be viewed more frequently during the weekdays (Monday through Friday) than on the weekends. Silicon, for example, averaged about 2500 hits per weekday, but only 1400 hits per weekend day in June. If you are preparing for a major edit, such as one that would require the {{in use}} template, consider waiting until the weekend to minimize the possibility of an edit conflict.
  • The same is also true for the winter holidays. Silicon averaged 2900 hits per day from December 1 through December 19, but only 1200 hits per day from December 20 through December 31.
  • News articles, even those contained within Wikipedia itself, can cause spikes in page traffic for the elements mentioned within the article, even if the news source is specialized or obscure. If you happen to notice a news story that focuses on an element, consider adding that page to your watchlist for a day or two.
