July music

story · music · places

Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:03, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:48, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers the chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:52, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Carbonated milk again

Hello. The fellow you blocked in May for trolling on carbonated milk has returned. Previous request. Return. XabqEfdg (talk) 21:55, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Piotr Glas

Piotr Glas (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) was arrested last month and charged with ten sexual offenses against children. Content on that matter was added here 25 June 24. 193.109.244.28 (contribs | filter log) has been removing that content. Should it be on the article? Sources on the page and that I've found:

  • "Former Jersey Catholic priest charged with 10 historic sexual offences against a child on island". ITV. 25 June 2024. Archived from the original on 25 June 2024. Retrieved 29 June 2024.
  • "Man charged with sexual offences". States of Jersey Police. Archived from the original on 20 June 2024. Retrieved 30 June 2024.</ref>
  • "Polski ksiądz oskarżony o ataki seksualne na dzieci. Angielska diecezja potwierdza" [Polish priest in UK accused of sex crimes against minors]. Rzeczpospolita (in Polish). 24 June 2024. Archived from the original on 24 June 2024. Retrieved 11 July 2024.
  • "Polish priest in UK accused of sex crimes against minors". Polskie Radio. 25 June 2024. Archived from the original on 11 July 2024. Retrieved 11 July 2024.

The Jersey Police cite was added on 25 June, I added the ITV cite to the article and just dug up the last two. The Polskie Radio references Rzeczpospolita. Thank you for looking into this! Cheers Adakiko (talk) 09:55, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hmm that's really a matter for WP:BLPN; I don't want to make a snap judgment here. But the IP editor is certainly being disruptive with their unexplained removals, and I blocked them for a week. Drmies (talk) 16:50, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll post on BLPN. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 19:35, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
FYI: WP:BLPN#Piotr Glas Thanks again! Adakiko (talk) 20:29, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

vandalism versus good faith

i did not vandalize wikipedia and i would like you to retract your claim. Daddyelectrolux (talk) 23:29, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies, my opinion is that the editor is skating on very thin ice. Cullen328 (talk) 02:43, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cullen328: How thin does it have to get before they fall through?--Bbb23 (talk) 22:15, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cullen328, my opinion is that Drmies fucked up by calling me a vandal. i dont think thats right, forgive me for being more than a little offended by this. i invite either or both of you to pursue action based on my good faith addition to the article. i dare you. Daddyelectrolux (talk) 15:22, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you have enjoyed your time on Wikipedia. —DIYeditor (talk) 21:39, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

and? Daddyelectrolux (talk) 22:04, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you're going to be coy about it (indicate you have no idea what you are doing) then it'll probably be worse. It'd be easier just to say you recognize the issue(s).
I don't know that what you inserted in the assassination attempt article was vandalism, it was more like WP:SYNTH or WP:OR in its original form without being cited to something from a WP:RS that ties it to the article. Properly cited to a RS that mentions it in context, it might be fine. Freaking out about it makes it into a bigger problem than it is. —DIYeditor (talk) 22:18, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:DIYeditor, I consider that edit to be a serious violation of the BLP: the suggestion is--well it's pretty clear what the suggestion is. Drmies (talk) 14:50, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not familiar enough with the topic to say. A quick search finds mentions of it from diverse sources in relation to the assassination attempt. [3]. I don't think these sources existed at the time the material was added though, and I agree, it was mentioned in a way that lacked context and insinuated a direct connection. —DIYeditor (talk) 20:31, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My kind fellow user, top of the afternoon to you!

Can you please protect this page for a few weeks? A bit sick and tired of cleaning this IP's pidgin English, ONE-LINE paragraphs in wording and addition of unsourced info (as seen here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Francisco_Geraldes&diff=prev&oldid=1234624795, with more Anglish "to go"). And on 24 January it was also them i reverted, so seems to be quite the IP range...

Take care, thanks in advance RevampedEditor (talk) 15:43, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I blocked a range: I wish more soccer editors would treat this website like an actual encyclopedia... Hope you're doing well. You know I'm still in grief. England. Grr. Drmies (talk) 16:13, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This user that you recently warned seems to be part of an active sock farm: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Amandeep Jhajj. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 20:51, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. I blocked the account, but it looks like the tip of the iceberg. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 21:03, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh it is. Helpful Raccoon, pray that my laptop doesn't crash with two dozen screens open. Someone started a COIN report but you might as well stop that. It's blocks all around. Drmies (talk) 21:11, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I like moron better

Mr. Iddiot here. As long as you're busy doing CU blocks, what do you think of Office7724? See their Talk page for what I think of them; I'm not usually quite so harsh when I suspect a new user of socking, but I was definitely punchy with this one. I hate the phrase, but the user practically screams sock. I've seen other "new" users who clerk noticeboards, but the interesting thing about this person is they seem to want to protect disruptive users. I believe clerking is usually the opposite, meaning they want to jump on the bandwagon and say, yeah, they should be blocked. The user hasn't edited since my little tirade on their Talk page, so it's understandable that they haven't responded.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:50, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • You are totally lost? Drmies (talk) 15:29, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Pretty normal for me, actually. What does Murakami have to do with me or the sock? I'm fairly sure I've never read him; have we talked about him and I've forgotten? You always want to talk about literature, even though all I read are mysteries. In fact, I could give you a list of mystery writers not to read. It's hard to find good ones. A lot of Anglo-Saxon mystery writers must've read How to Create Mystery Best-Sellers for Dummies, which says, among other monetary tips, do not use sentences longer than 10 words, the first few (short) sentences must be really eye-grabbing, and not along the lines of Aujourd'hui ma mere est morte. Now Jasper Fforde is worth reading, but he's a rare find.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:40, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Failed ping attempt

Hi. Re this, you're aware the pings still didn't work? Just checking, since I'd be surprised if you decided they weren't important after all. At the risk of insulting your vast experience, a valid ping and a valid signature have to be added in the same edit, else the notification is not sent. Also, I don't think you can fix it by modifying the existing comment; it would take a whole new one if I'm not mistaken. ―Mandruss  00:41, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Haha, "vast experience" doesn't necessarily pertain to technical matters. I thought a renewed signature was enough, and I thought the past had indicated it was. I'll let them know individually. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 01:01, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gee and I was just about to sign him up for my Earth Edge travel package. 25% off for the Earth and Mars package deal. O3000, Ret. (talk) 21:27, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

But that image! It's definitely suspect! ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:37, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course it is. It's also off the coast of The Netherlands. Oops, now I'm in trouble. O3000, Ret. (talk) 21:44, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I was going to pick a wacky alternate geography theory to follow it would definitely be hollow earth. That's much more fun. A bit related, I'm also a fan of the secret space program/breakaway civilization. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:47, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer the Counter-Earth. Acroterion (talk) 21:55, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Only someone from the breakaway civilization would know about that. I'm on to you! ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:59, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sign me up for the Total Turtle Tour to the underside. Acroterion (talk) 21:46, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Say Total Turtle Tour twenties times quickly and it's free. O3000, Ret. (talk) 21:50, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you can even type it right. Acroterion (talk) 21:55, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) I hope it's ok to interject, but did anyone else think of the 'cows, far away' sketch from Father Ted Knitsey (talk) 21:51, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well we aim to please. For the record, I only accept the curvature of the earth because the MSM tells me to. Drmies (talk) 13:17, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just accept Shakespeare's iambs talking of the great globe in his discussion of climate change:
"The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind." O3000, Ret. (talk) 13:43, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm I never realized how much Coleridge's Conversation poems were indebted to Shakespeare. Thanks for that. Drmies (talk) 13:56, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sock?

Can you check to see if this user is a sock of User:Rayanmou07? Thanks. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 21:53, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I guess Abecedare blocked them. Anyways, I'm going to finish my 4,703,586 game of Temple Run. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 21:58, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Back in January, you deleted this article by making it a redirect. FYI, recently another user restored an old version over the redirect. (I just restored the most recent version of text, figuring it was better.) If you care about deleting it, I suppose taking it to AfD would be the next thing you should try. -- R. S. Shaw (talk) 22:45, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yeah R. S. Shaw, I saw what you did. It was a terrible article when I redirected it, it became an even more terrible article, and now it's back to being a regularly terrible article. I don't "care about deleting it", but that phrasing is...well I don't care for it. The redirect was better than this article. Drmies (talk) 23:20, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
