I have not been able to find any technical details on it, but I found a picture of the M1923E which was standardized in 1926, and it actually looks nothing like the M1897 at all, but rather as the 75 mm gun M1916MIII on Col. Rimailho's carriage M1916MI adapted from St Chamond 75 mm gun: photo. This 1992 book has a brief historical description which somewhat corroborates my hypothesis and certainly refutes Zaloga's claim retold here: [1] Has anyone seen a more recent historical work on this topic?
