Nominator's rationale: small cat, that overlaps with the parent category. I don't think adding the distinction of it being pre-unified italy helpful Mason (talk) 23:33, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just delete, the one person in the category lived only a few years in Florence before settling permanently in Hamburg. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:36, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per Marcocapelle. Another example where User:Johnpacklambert created a category in August 2022, place one article in and left it as it. While such categories could maybe bring something in principle if used correctly, they are too thin and too over-refined to take up on heir own. They show a too strict reading of historic political regimes and periodization, that's maybe too specific to the creator of these categories. As a result, they bring more harm than good. Nominator's rationale: One-element category. The sole article is already in another subcat of Category:Web browsers so doesn't need to be merged there. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:38, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename from "American foo by city" to "American foo by populated place". (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 17:05, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: There are places in this category that are not cities (e.g. Brookline, Massachusetts, Greenwich, Connecticut, and Montclair, New Jersey). Rename to reflect this reality. See history: Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2023_January_15#Category:Buildings_and_structures_in_the_United_States_by_state_and_city. –Aidan721 (talk) 20:52, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: The lone article is already in Category:High schools in Osceola County, Florida so the intersection is trivial. –Aidan721 (talk) 16:47, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Single-item WP:SMALLCAT newly created solely to overcategorize an arboretum. Every arboretum in existence does not automatically need to be categorized as "Trees in [Specific City or County]", especially if it's already in other more appropriate categories related to that city or county anyway (such as Category:Gardens in County Wexford and Category:Tourist attractions in County Wexford, both of which were already here), and the Category:Trees of Ireland parent also has no established "Trees of [Specific Irish County]" subcategories either. The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge/delete as nominated. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 17:22, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Two new single-item WP:SMALLCATs, newly created solely to overcategorize each year's "Listed Miss Grand International YYYY national representative selection" spinoff, but the only other things that could be filed here at all are Miss Grand International 2018 and Miss Grand International 2023 themselves, which would still just make them smallcats of two.
Recurring annual events can have by-year subcategories if there's a lot of year-specific content to file in them (such as a sports competition where the main article might be supplemented with several spinoffs for each individual event), but are not warranted for just one or two things per year (such as a film festival or a beauty pageant) -- navigation of the Wikipedia is not aided by obsessively sifting everything down into one or two item microcategories, so these two articles just belong in the parent category rather than having their own dedicated year-specific subcats.
And Category:Miss Grand International by year will just be left empty if these are upmerged.
I'd also note that the pages also seem like bad titles that should probably be moved to something better, but that's not CFD's purview — I just want to state it on the record because I don't know enough about the subject to propose RM discussions myself. The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 17:20, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Doesn't seem to be a defining category. Yes, the shows may have been impacted by the strike, but I suspect in the vast majority of cases that didn't have any significant impact on them. A properly sourced list where the impacts can be more fully discussed might be a better option. DonIago (talk) 16:28, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: One category for a fictional location and a real-life city of the same name in China? There aren't enough entries to justify a category for the fictional place. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:51, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge.
Nominator's rationale: Overcategorization of clubs by membership criteria. Wikipedia does not have any other "private clubs in X" categories for any other place in the world besides these two newly created ones for Canadian cities, nor do we have any standard scheme of using the category system to separate "private" from "public" entities in this context. Bearcat (talk) 20:46, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: It is unclear what the !voters want to do with these categories.
