Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: After the previous protection expired, the pseudo-Ukrainian POV pushers returned to replace Kiev with Kyiv and Russian by Ukrainian. This has been going on for years, and the article is covered by WP:RUSUKR. We are clearly ready for an indefinite semi-protection. Ymblanter (talk) 20:43, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ymblanter: I only have a faint recollection of the Kiev/Kyiv edit wars. I see that article talk refers to WP:KYIV. However, I've had a very hectic time off-wiki and am incapable of finding the wording in WP:KYIV that supports "Kiev" at Aleksandra Ekster. Also, is there a clearer explanation about the Russian/Ukrainian dispute other than "confusing nationality with ethnicity"? Johnuniq (talk) 08:51, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Block evasion by User:Steptacular12 with lots of Vietnam IPs. See Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Hanoi vandal. Binksternet (talk) 01:51, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 13:09, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of disruptive editing due to officially unconfirmed possible title name of upcoming Jurassic film. BattleshipMan (talk) 03:14, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 13:12, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Continued IP vandalism since protection ended (changing factory locations without supporting sources and contradicting the company's website; have left no edit summaries). Let's try something longer. Zinnober9 (talk) 03:41, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent Disruptive Editing. Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 04:07, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism due to their current 21-game losing streak GreenPepper1 (talk) 04:30, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Sockpuppetry. See the page history. ADifferentMan (talk) 05:08, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IPs continue to add unsourced content despite warnings. CNMall41 (talk) 05:43, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: This page frequently removes information, adds false information, and uses anonymous IP addresses without reason. Spworld2 (talk) 07:47, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Repeated instances of politically-motivated vandalism AndyTheGrump (talk) 11:01, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – New user repeatedly deleting sourced content. 10mmsocket (talk) 11:13, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 13:03, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Ip vandalism mostly by 103.131.*.* changing budget and boxoffice numbers. Page needs protection and it will be great if the IP range can be blocked as this same IP is doing the same on many other pages. RangersRus (talk) 13:08, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 4 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 13:14, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 13:39, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – New users continue to blank sections of page about controversial figure. Paris1127 (talk) 13:46, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 4 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Please note that I removed a section of the article due to WP:BLP concerns. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 13:57, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Multiple IPs and one account are adding BLP violations to the article, the most extreme ones were this and this, based on out-of-context quotes from a column he wrote. Fram (talk) 13:52, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Remove "the Israeli government has historically interpreted any criticism of its actions as antisemitism" from the last sentence of the last paragraph of the opening section.

This specific text should be removed, as it makes a poorly founded and sweeping statement via the wording of "any criticism", hence hurting the neutrality and quality of the page. None of the cited sources prove that the Israeli government claims "any criticism" of Israel is antisemitism.

Aside from the problematic wording of "any criticism", the text also links to another article on "Weaponization of antisemitism", which itself is a deeply contested and controversial discussion. The IHRA working definition of antisemitism has been widely adopted by numerous governments, academic institutions and NGOs and specifies instances where unfair criticisms of Israel, under certain circumstances, may be considered as antisemitic. The text in the article serves to directly dispute/discredit the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, which is inappropriate and biased for a Wikipedia article, particularly on such a contentious topic.

The text should instead mention the Israeli government's claims of antisemitism, while not claiming that it labels all criticisms as such. It is in fact incorrect to claim so, as numerous figures within the Israeli government itself, as well as prominent figures from Israeli society, are openly critical of Israel's current policies.
