About this ebook

'Vintage King', a delightful suspense novel in which King's 'trump card is his ability to arouse empathy for the plight of his young heroine' (Independent on Sunday), now with a stunning new cover look.

The world had teeth and it could bite you with them anytime it wanted. Trisha McFarland discovered this when she was nine years old. Lost in the woods.

Trisha has only veered a little way off the trail. But in her panic to get back to her family, she takes a turning that leads deeper into the tangled undergrowth.

At first it's just the bugs, midges and mosquitoes. Then comes the hunger. For comfort she tunes her Walkman into broadcasts of the Red Sox baseball games and the performances of her hero Tom Gordon.

But as darkness begins to fall, Trisha realises that she is not alone. There's something else in the woods - watching. Waiting . . .

As a girl who grew up with an Australian mother obsessed with every King book and an American father who I played baseball with this was my first King read, I was 12...and loved it. Tame enough for a young girl to read and great baseball referneces I could relate to. 20 years layer, still my fav King book 🙃

Just reread this to my American girlfriend, to show them the way I discovered baseball as a British teenager. This book is perfectly written, and unlike any other. Haunting story of a little girl trying to survive being lost in the woods, with only child logic, an indomitable character, and a love of baseball to keep her alive.

Honestly, as someone who's not much into baseball, the parts where Trish was thinking/talking about it where rather confusing, but once getting into it I could not put this book down. Can only recommend!
