It is with these words that an unknown alien attacker destroys the Earth cities of Tehran, Sydney and Beijing. Fifty million people die... and nothing is ever the same again.

Some call them Demons, some call them Aliens, but to Chinese Naval Captain Melissa Liao they are the enemy. She is given command of one of three great warships built to fight the "demons", the TFR Beijing.

Decent pacing, good characters and tech. Some of the actions are a bit over the top - especially for a naval captain (commander). Still, the actions fit the character so you have to respect that. Then there is the action of the story - which is pretty sharply told. I'm a bit sketchy on the motivation of the captured alien, but I'll leave it at that. A solid 3.5 stars, but I always round down. Then again, definitely worth buying book 2, take that for what it's worth.

Author has little to no idea of how to write military or how chain of command works. Main charater ignores orders. Only pays attention when she wants to. Is abusive and constantly acts like a teenager instead of a military officer in a hugely important role. Preaches about honor and not causing problems from a relationship and then goes and does everything she says she wont. Pathetic.

One: nukes wouldn't have shockwaves in space or be nearly as effective as the book implies. Two: the main character is not likeable, and Isn't relatable at all. She's very cruel and selfish and behaves like a teenager. Three: humans get their way and overcome challenges way too easily. They make learning a new language, inventing fantastic things conveniently suited to space travel, and defeating experienced alien forces with simple and predictable plans seem easy. Why must they kill they kill the aliens?

About the author

I've always been thinking of stories for as long as I've been alive. I have way, way, way too many to tell and far too little time to tell them.

It was only in 2011 that I actually started shaping and weaving those random, jumbling, chaotic masses of thoughts into coherent narratives and began self-publishing.

I write a little science fiction, a little fantasy, a little humour and comedy, and a few other things all over the place.
